ConnectID and One Click Group partner to simplify tax returns

ConnectID, the digital identity solution developed by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), has been integrated into One Click Group Limited, an Australian fintech that simplifies and streamlines financial administration and life management for individuals and businesses.

The integration has happened in time to support workers and organisations as they are getting ready to file their tax returns, and it will facilitate the work for the fintech’s clients during this busy period.

In addition to tax returns, One Click Group helps Australians manage services such as wills, insurance, mortgages and investments. With rising demand for self-directed financial tools, they were looking for a way to verify identity securely without compromising user privacy.

How it works

ConnectID is currently used during the onboarding stage for One Click customers, offering an alternative to uploading ID documents or using biometric matching.

The technology allows users to prove their identity without having to present or share documents, such as passports or utility bills, which simplifies the process while adding another layer of protection. Before the implementation, for example, mismatches between clients’ details and government records could require manual intervention, leading to lengthy calls and frustrated users.

Verification via ConnectID is completed through reliable sources, such as the user’s bank, to confirm information in real-time. The user simply selects their preferred organisation for verification and consents to share what is required. Aside from offering greater accuracy than manual input in just a few clicks, “It helps us approve legitimate users faster, spot risks earlier, and remove bottlenecks for both sides,” said Nathan Kerr, Chief Technology Officer of One Click Group. “It’s a modern solution for a modern problem, built around how people actually live, not how systems expect them to.”

This method accelerates approval for legitimate users, identifies risks sooner, and reduces friction during peak periods like tax season.

Why ConnectID?

“ConnectID was both the smart and the right move for us,” said Kerr. “We were looking for a secure way to verify a client’s details as a final safeguard against fraud and ConnectID stood out immediately. It’s backed by Australian Payments Plus, so it comes with serious credibility in payments infrastructure. But better than that, it solved two problems at once: reducing fraud and supporting people who don’t have access to traditional forms of ID.”

One Click has a strong focus on financial inclusion and security. The digital identity solution complements several of the other technologies it already uses, such as e-passport checks and liveness detection, creating an alternative verification process that works for everyone, even those without documents like a passport or a driver’s licence.

Another key reason for choosing the solution was privacy. “With so many high-profile data breaches in recent years, ConnectID’s approach, where excessive identity data doesn’t need to be stored or passed between parties, fits perfectly with our values of not collecting or storing identity data unless we have to. That’s a big win for privacy,” said Kerr.

Another significant advantage of ConnectID is its ability to verify identity in real-time using up-to-date data. “With ConnectID, we tap into the most current source of truth: the user’s bank. That means we can validate details like name, address, and phone number in real time; data that’s regularly updated and already vetted under strict banking regulations.”

Andrew Black, Managing Director of ConnectID, added, “By working with One Click Group, we’re ensuring Australians can manage their financial services confidently, with more control over their data. This integration is another step towards creating a future where identity verification is simple, secure, and respectful of privacy.”

Strengthening fraud prevention

In the coming months, One Click is looking to expand its use of ConnectID from verified identity to verified bank accounts. Securely sharing or confirming customer bank details (BSB and account numbers) directly with the source before issuing refunds can help reduce the chance of misdirected funds or fraud – adding another layer of protection for clients.

For One Click Group, this innovation could reduce business costs linked to tracing mistaken refunds and help avoid customer frustration caused by delays or administrative errors.

ConnectID continues to demonstrate how digital identity solutions can enhance trust, reduce friction and improve customer outcomes. By embedding secure, verified identity checks at critical stages of the customer journey, organisations like One Click Group protect consumers and pave the way for more inclusive and secure digital services.
